GARY Glass is becoming a favoured building product by the construction industry for its safety benefits and impressive aesthetic applications. AC Yule, one of Scotland's major glass suppliers are servicing the growing demand for building glass by producing glass that not only looks good, but is also durable and safe. These factors being vital requirements for architects and contractors alike.
AC Yule's Heat soaked glass is a product growing in popularity due to its safety credentials. This type of toughened glass has been heated for 8 hours at a temperature of 290 C in order to eliminate contaminated glass. Nickel Sulphide is a particle found in float glass which can cause a breakage to occur up to 2 years after the toughening process, therefore, the process of heat soaking allows defective sheets of glass to be detected by forcing them to break if they contain too many impurities. Heat soaked glass is particularly suited to public areas such as shopping centres, offices and schools because the risk of spontaneous breakage is greatly reduced compared to that of normal toughened glass.
AC Yule also produce their own brand of ceramic painted panels, named TempaCLAD. These glass panels have been developed for curtain walling applications and are manufactured in accordance with BS safety requirements. The glass has a strong ceramic paint fired onto it (available in a variety of colours) which prevents scratches and increases the durability of the panel. The panel will either have a metal tray or foil backing which must be placed against a solid background such as brick wall to avoid inconsistencies in the paint being visible. The end result of this process is a very strong, durable, aesthetically pleasing glass which is up to 5 times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness.
AC Yule are hoping to continue their success in the specialist glass market and aim to sell more of their glass further a field, after already exporting their glass products to over 300 world-wide destinations.
