
The demand for skilled labour in the Scottish construction market has been increasing for some time. Recently we have seen brick layers and joiners arriving from Poland and other East European countries to work on various building sites.
Within the Architectural and Commercial Division the Aberdeen Aluminium fabrication unit has seen it skill base decline over the past 18 months. Various attempts over this period have been made to build the work force back up, with either semi skilled personnel or young trainees.
With an ever increasing order book currently sitting at £4.5 million for completion over the next 6 to 7 months, fresh ideas to significantly improve the workforce was urgently required.
A specialist agency was contacted and given a detailed job description for the type of personnel needed. 10 days into the search a company in Hungary was identified, suitable CVs were forwarded, 11 fabricators subsequently interviewed of which 6 have been recruited on a 6 month contract.
Zsolt, Christian, Bela, Frank, Ati, and Atilla duly arrived in Aberdeen on the 2nd of December, completed their induction on the 3rd and started in the factory on Monday the 6th.
