During May this year, the Livingston branch of Glass & Glazing Division took delivery of a new "Hegla" 3 x 2m cutting table, complete with high speed edge deletion capability. Edge deletion is simply the removal of the metallic coating at the edge of a glass panel to allow the 2-part sealant to adhere to the glass surface when it is made into a unit. Hegla lead the industry in terms of glass cutting, handling and storage equipment.
Livingston Divisional Manager, Steve Bain stated,
"Hegla cutting and storage equipment may not be the cheapest on the market, but in terms of engineering build and quality, they are second to none."
Steve went on to add,
"the higher initial capital outlay is paid back quicker than other competitive solutions owing to the greater speed, reliability and longevity of the equipment and this makes it a sound investment for the long term".
At the same time, semi-automatic compact storage racks were delivered, again by leading German glass equipment manufacturer, Hegla. Steve commented, "the space saving over conventional racks really has to be seen to be believed - the compact storage system has released a lot of much needed floor space and we now have 32 packs of glass in a small area rather than spread out throughout the factory in space consuming "A" frames".
Watch this space for further planned investment in state-of-the-art equipment shortly for both Livingston and Aberdeen plants.
