The Hub, Aberdeen University

The Hub, Aberdeen University, is exactly that. At the heart of the campus the Hub is a recently refurbished leisure, dining and social facility. The Hub houses a range of services such as dining facilities catering for 450 people, a variety of shops, an internet cafe, a global hub lounge area and a suite of meeting rooms. The building is also home to Aberdeen University Students Association, the Students Advice and Support Office and the Students Accommodation Suite.

Formerly the Central Refectory situated on a prominent site on St Machar Drive the building has undergone an £8M refurbishment including complete window replacement. Consideration was given to the existing fenestration and where possible the Architects have tried to retain the window lines. Using thermally enhanced window frames and low energy double glazed units throughout supplied and installed by AC Yule. A new entrance was created with feature bolted facetted glass forming a large arc over the new automatic entrance doors. The whole thing is supported by a stainless steel structure. AC Yule were involved in the development and design of this feature from the original architects' concept through to completion.
