Another recent addition to the Aberdeen skyline, situated just off Union Street in the heart of the business community is Union Plaza. This seven storey building makes a striking monotone landmark with its white stow render and dark framed glazing. It can be seen from the main arterial routes into the city from the south.

The project was the concept of Stewart Milne Developments and provides 122,000 square feet of office space and car parking for 231 cars on two levels below ground.

AC Yule were involved with the design team at an early stage providing technical and structural assistance.

Negotiations with building contractor, Stewart Milne Construction, were concluded successfully allowing detailed design to commence. Our design office produced some 400 plus drawings over the construction period lasting some 18 months.

The installation was assisted by the use of mast climbers, motorised scaffold platforms, allowing our installation teams full access to the facade.

Main building features involving AC Yule are the extensive facades glazing. Here, standard caps used alternatively with smaller bevelled caps were used to simulate silicone joints. Spandrel glazing at various floor levels feature AC Yule's Tempaclad insulated painted panels. Glass to glass corners running full height give the building a clean sharp angular look and contrast with the curved lines of the entrance canopy.

The eye-catching courtyard main entrance design again features large expanses of glass to both vertical and roof elements and contrasts with the green clad, spaceship like canopy.

Internallly, the red glow in the double-height reception area, is a light box, linked to the main reception desk. Created in glass this spans floor to ceiling at ground and first floors. AC Yule again worked closely with the architects to create this feature using cladding with red film which is then back lit to give a red glow. Glass also features as part of the reception desk; the treatment here is similar with the use of film.

The building has now been let with several well known established companies taking office suites.

AC Yule are proud to include this landmark building as part of our ever expanding portfolio of major city centre projects.
